Probably, while you are reading this blog, 2 or more new technologies would have born. Now as ever, because of the technology growing speed, people need to adapt or perish, in particular, companies need to focus on their clients. Technology is essential in innovation, without it we wouldn’t have left the cave. We have done great progress but we still need to work hard. Nowadays, technology is over people needs.
Companies which understand that customer is “WHY” and technology “HOW”, are the leading ones.
We may ask ourselves, how to encourage and take advantage of technology? How to make it have a higher and positive impact on people live thus in companies? At this point is when Design Thinking comes, the methodology focused on people as an innovation tool. We have already talked about this methodology in previous posts, check it here.
Meanwhile: Which will be the strongest trends in the coming years? According to Garner (1), the consultancy, they will be:
Edge computing
Hiper automation
Transparency and traceability
Distributed Cloud
Artificial intelligence (AI) security
1. Edge computing
Edge computing will be empowered with more sophisticated and specialized compute resources and data storage. Its goal is to to keep the data traffic and processing local in order to reduce latency and enabler greater autonomy.
The focus on the edge currently stems from the need for the Internet of Things. Over time, the edge will connect a wide range of things by a set of distributed cloud services.
2. Hyper automation
This is the combination of multiple machine learnings, packaged software and automation tools. Hyper automation is an unavoidable market state in which organizations must identify and automate business processes. Hyper automation often results from the need of a digital organization tool, allowing business to visualize how functions, processes and key performance indicators (KPIs) interact to drive value. Hyper automation provides real time continuous intelligence about the organization and drives business opportunities.
3. Transparency and traceability
The modern IT world has created a trust crisis due to customers are more aware of how their data is collected and used. Legislation such as European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation is being implemented around the world. Transparency and traceability are critical elements to support digital ethics and personal and organizational’s information privacy needs.
Algorithms analyze everything organizations and customers do. Incorrect algorithms can generate bad business decisions and risk serious reactions from employees and customers.
4. Distributed Cloud
By 2022, 75% of enterprise-generated data will be created and processed outside the centralized data centre or cloud, an increase from the less than 10% generated today. These data centres are called distributed clouds and allow data centre to be located anywhere. Due to distributed cloud is in the early stages of development, many providers offer only a small subset of their services in a distributed way, and it supports continuously and intermittently connected operations of cloud services from the public cloud to specific locations. This allows low-latency services where the cloud service is closer to the point of need in remote data centres, delivering improvements in performance and reducing the risk of network-related outages.
5. AI security
All of these predicted trends will change the IT landscape and create new vulnerabilities and potential points of attack. The three most impacted areas will be the protection of AI-powered systems, the leverage of the AI to enhance security defence and the anticipation of dangerous use of the AI by the attackers. Furthermore, attackers begin to use machine learning and AI techniques to empower their attacks so organizations will need to understand and anticipate these actions.
How does technology go into people’s lives and encourage them at a business level?
For that purpose, we propose you this dynamic related with Design Thinking:
Which is your field?
How is the user you want to help? And the main one?
Which are the problems you realised about on a daily basis?
Which of these 5 trends are more valuable for you? Why?
What do you know about this technology?
Which value can this technology give to your company?*
Which are the ideas or solutions you have to solve your customer problems through this technology?
Are you able to draw the idea to show it to your customer?
What did your customer like about the idea? What didn’t? Why? Which new ideas came up?
*Here it is advisable to put / ask a technologist to have more knowledge.
From this moment you go into the prototype stage, where you will interact more to achieve the most valuable proposal. Create prototypes from low loyalty until high ones, thus you will achieve the minimum viable product.
This way, you could easily realise the techniques and uses used in the prototype stage.
This simple dynamic is just a sample of what you can achieve when you think focused on the client.
The necessary tips to enhance work sessions. I want you...
Design Thinking
It is a method for generating innovative ideas that focuses its effectiveness on understanding and providing solutions to the real needs of users. It comes from the way product designers work. Hence its name, which literally translates as "Design Thinking", although we prefer to translate it as "The way designers think". It is, in short, a change of perspective from designing FOR people to designing WITH people.
Lean Startup
It is a working method that aims to increase the chances of success when a project comes out of the paper and begins to be realized, eliminating everything useless and inadequate. The idea is to adapt the product to what the market demands and not to our own vision, which is the best way to launch something new. To do this, we must focus on the customer's needs, relying on their feedback to modify the product until the final version is developed.
Agile UX
It is a set of methodologies for developing projects that require speed and flexibility to adapt to changing industry or market conditions, leveraging those changes to provide a competitive advantage. The main characteristic of the principles and values underlying agile methodologies is to be able to deliver quickly and continuously. In other words, the project is "sliced" into small chunks to be completed and delivered in a few weeks. In this way, if a change is needed, it is made only in the part involved and in a short period of time.
